The Marsden Building Society Charitable Foundation awarded a £3,000 grant to TramShed Theatre Company, to fund a 12-week inclusive performing arts course for over 50s in Fylde.

Lancashire-based TramShed Theatre Company is an inclusive theatre company and charity, offering performing arts workshops, performances, training and events. The donated funds from the Foundation enabled the launch of a new project - 'All Aboard' - which supports mental health amongst those aged over 50.

The project’s aim is to provide a place for isolated individuals to come together in a safe, inclusive environment to learn new skills, boost their confidence and build friendships.

Rob Pheasey, Chief Executive at Marsden Building Society, said: “The well-being of our communities is extremely important to us and the arts can be a powerful tool in tackling isolation and loneliness, by building confidence and new connections. It’s for this reason that we’re thrilled to support the TramShed Theatre in delivering these workshops, which will help support over 50s in our area to develop strong support networks in an inclusive and engaging environment.”

Zac Hackett, Artistic Director at TramShed Theatre Company, added: “TramShed is delighted to have been funded once again by the Marsden Building Society Charitable Foundation. As a charity, support of this nature is vital to ensure the work we deliver reaches those most in need. Thanks to support with our latest project 'All Aboard', we’ll create an inclusive theatre platform in which isolated individuals aged 50+ can come together in a safe, inclusive environment and share ideas, learn skills and build friendships.

“Many of those involved would not have ordinarily met, were it not for a project of this nature. A highlight will be to stage a wonderful entertainment afternoon in November, to continue building connections and promote health and well-being.”

The Marsden Building Society Charitable Foundation previously funded TramShed’s ‘Silver Shed’ initiative, a performing arts pilot project, offering workshops for over 60s in the area.

Since launching in 2023, the Society has awarded 22 grants so far through its Charitable Foundation, totalling just over £60,000. The funds are managed by the Community Foundation for Lancashire, which works closely with organisations to help ensure their charitable donations have the greatest impact where they’re most needed.

The Marsden Building Society Charitable Foundation aims to support projects in Lancashire focussed on three key themes: financial well-being, societal inclusion, and the environment.
