The Marsden Building Society Charitable Foundation awarded a £2,990 grant to Colne Citadel, to fund bingo sessions aimed at tackling isolation and loneliness amongst local people aged 50+.

Colne Citadel aims to improve the lives of residents by reducing social isolation in a safe, caring environment. This donation has enabled the charity to continue its much-loved over 50s bingo sessions throughout the colder months.

The project aims to help reduce isolation and improve the well-being of over 50s in Colne by providing a regular opportunity for socialisation in a fun and welcoming environment.

The sessions benefit around 32 people each week and, in addition to three rounds of bingo, attendees also can enjoy hot meals, hot and cold drinks and desserts.

Rob Pheasey, Chief Executive at the Marsden Building Society, said: “It’s a pleasure to support Colne Citadel in providing a valuable and popular activity for over 50s living in our area. By providing a welcoming and inclusive space, these bingo sessions offer attendees the opportunity to connect with others, engage in enjoyable activities and experience a sense of belonging. This initiative aligns with the Marsden’s aim to give back to the communities we serve and make a positive impact on the lives of our neighbours.”

Jolene Cooper, Assistant Centre Manager at Colne Citadel, added: “We’re a charity community centre and this generous donation will help support our aim to reduce social isolation and improve well-being.”

Since launching our Charitable Foundation in 2023, we've awarded 22 grants, totalling just over £60,000. The funds are managed by the Community Foundation for Lancashire, which works closely with organisations to help ensure their charitable donations have the greatest impact where they’re most needed.

The Marsden Building Society Charitable Foundation aims to support projects in Lancashire focussed on three key themes: financial well-being, societal inclusion, and the environment.
