Meet the team: Pierre Blampied

Pierre tells us about a typical day in his role as Managing Director at SPF Private Clients, helping clients across Guernsey secure their ideal Marsden mortgage, whilst maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Talk us through a typical working day...

Generally, I arrive into the office at just before 8am. The majority of my time is spent dealing with email enquiries and meeting both existing and new clients. I also have meetings with lenders and other professionals, such as tax advisers and accountants. Additionally, I work with colleagues on all areas of the business looking to develop the Howden name.

What’s the most complex case you’ve successfully secured a mortgage for?

As we have a High Net Worth proposition, which is not the standard client for the Marsden onshore, we've developed a bespoke product which has been produced by the Marsden since it entered the Guernsey market. We had a European client living in Guernsey who had a share portfolio that generated income, in addition to their non-executive income. We were able to offer them the finance required by borrowing against their existing property.

What’s the biggest misconception you’ve come across about mortgages?

I think a lot of people are very worried and nervous about obtaining a mortgage, as they believe it to be out of reach. Often, in my experience, this is simply not the case and they can usually borrow the desired amount to purchase their home.

What do you love most about your role?

I love working with people, particularly delivering the good news when a client's mortgage has been accepted and they're able to buy their new home. I especially enjoy helping people buy a property when they're relocating to the island - meeting with them prior to them moving here and introducing them to other professionals, such as advocates and tax advisers. I also often help clients with their journey beyond the mortgage application, for example, recommending builders and even restaurants.

How do you unwind after a busy work day?

I mostly enjoy socialising with family and friends. I'm a sports fanatic and enjoy supporting Manchester United in person as I have season tickets. I enjoy playing padel, albeit, with age and the demand for courts on the island being high, I'm not playing as much as I used to so my game is deteriorating! I also have a keen interest in local politics.
