If you're approaching retirement or already retired and looking to take out a mortgage, there are options available to you. Mortgage Advice Bureau provide award-winning mortgage advice to help find the product that's right for you.
There are many reasons why you might be looking to borrow in retirement, and it's good to know that a mortgage might not be out of bounds.
You may be looking for a better mortgage deal or hoping to release some equity from your home for a variety of reasons, including home improvements. Or, you might be coming to the end of an interest-only mortgage term and looking for an option to continue this.
There are traditional mortgages available in retirement which have a set term and can be on a repayment or interest-only basis, or there are options such as Retirement Interest Only (RIO).
A RIO mortgage is an interest only mortgage with no maximum term. The capital is repaid when a life event occurs, such as the last remaining borrower (if joint) going into long-term care. It means you could stay in your home without needing to downsize.
Mortgage Advice Bureau can talk you through your options, providing expert advice to help you find the right mortgage for your circumstances.

There may be a cost to mortgage advice. The amount you pay will depend on your circumstances. The fee is up to 1% but a typical fee is 0.3% of the amount borrowed. Your adviser will talk you through any costs involved with the advice that will be provided.
Mortgage Advice Bureau's Mortgage Monitoring tool gives you ongoing updates about the value of your property, mortgage products currently available and the mortgage market in general. If you're not ready to enquire just yet, you can stay in the loop and decide when the best time to get in touch is.
Mortgages can sound confusing so we've pulled together a guide to mortgage jargon to help you navigate the most common terms and phrases used. Visit our 'Mortgage jargon' page to find out more.
